Cloud Benefits, Savings and Estimation Models

Good news, we are starting to get actual results from actual deployment experience of PaaS and SaaS. The cost savings and time-to-market advantages can be tremendous from development, enhancements and maintenance. It all depends upon specific deployments, service models and pricing models. Savings of over 90% from traditional applications have been realized. Modeling the time-to-market and schedule compression advantages of cloud solutions essentially makes the cloud SaaS/ PaaS options as the only logical choice.

Clouds SDOs Coming Together

ITU-T Cloud Joint Collaboration Activity meet and I’ll be helping coordinate. NIST is meeting in Washington June 5-7 and we will provide updates to the various cloud guidelines (Metrics, Roles, SLAs, Federated Cloud and Security). July 17 as part of the TM Forum Team Action Week we are bringing together several Cloud SDOs, where I’ll be representing several SDOs.

The Object Management Group – Cloud Standards Customer Council has a workshop on April 10 to review this important document that we have been working on since January. I was leader for the metrics, roles and resources topic areas and I want to thank all those who participated and special thanks to John Meegan at IBM for leading and editing our group.

Cloud Collaboration – update

I’m very pleased that several ICT communities are collaborating, recognizing the benefits to the cloud industry via sharing. ITU-T – Joint Community Activity, TM Forum – Cloud SDOs, NIST, OMG-CSCC, DMTF, OGF, ISMA-IFPUG, Cloud Commons, IEEE and OASIS to name a few.

Many of the organizations are making documents publicly available or released under “creative commons”.

June 5-7 – NIST Cloud Workshop Washington DC (results from my cloud metrics, and roles contributions)

August 16 – BFPUG – Sao Paulo Brazil, One of the Worlds Largest Software Measure & Governance Communities (speaking on Cloud Measurement)

October 1 to 4 – StarWest – Disneyland Hotel California – Cultural Considerations Testing in the Cloud

October 15, 16 – Ottawa – Canadian Cloud Council Conference – Cloud Governance and I’m helping in the event organization. Our keynote will be Sir Terry Matthews!

October 28 to 31 – Phoenix Arizona – International Software Measurement Conference in collaboration with Project Management Institute, I’ll be speaking, but I’m also the conference director.
